WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FIRST TRAINING SESION:

1:
Bring a pair of tracksuit bottoms and an old t-shirt.
2:

There is a code of conduct, which all students adhere too. "See section on dojo ettiquette" Each class begins with a bow and ends with one.

3:
Customarily, all commands issued by your instructor are acknowledged by responding: Oss! (pronounced "Oss" = I am willing!').
4:
You should not address the instructor unless he/she asks you to do so. When speaking to the instructor he/she should always be addressed as Sensei (= 'born before' or 'coming before others'). The instructor should never be addressed by his/her name [especially first name] while in the dojo.
5:
All jewellery and watches should be removed prior to training. If jewellery cannot be removed, it should be covered with tape or plaster.
6:
Long hair should be tied back so that it does not obscure vision.
7:
Dont worry about your fitness level. After a few training sesions you will have built up a good level of stamina that no gym can provide and you will feel really good about yourself.
8:
As with all new sports or activities that one starts you need time to adjust and find out if you really are up for the challenge; dont give up!
